CATH SHIELD

OUR PROBLEM STATEMENT

Conceptualization of a modified central line fixation adapter featuring an extended butterfly design with 3 suture ports - two lateral and one medial - for improved stability.

Aims to address limitations of existing adapters that rely on widely spaced stitches and offer suboptimal fixation

The Design Process

01

Research

We began by studying the everyday challenges clinicians face with central venous catheters

02

Ideation

Translating insights into opportunities, we explored multiple forms, mechanisms, and attachment strategies.

03

Concept Development

We refined the chosen direction into a clear, functional concept - focusing on ergonomics, suturing feasibility, tubing alignment, material choices, and clinical workflow compatibility.

04

Prototype

We built low- to mid-fidelity prototypes to test attachment stability, pivot movement, and tubing alignment.
